Autumn Accessories Crochet Along

Join in with this free Autumn Accessories Crochet Along and stitch up 4 crochet accessory patterns for all your fall fashion needs.

Autumn Poppy Crochet Along

The Autumn Poppy Crochet Along will feature 4 brand new autumn accessory patterns that have been designed to use with hand dyed yarn including the new yarn colours created by High Desert Yarn, called Autumn Poppy and Autumn Rose.

This event is a collaboration between the very clever designer and yarn dyer, Joanna of High Desert Yarn and Fiona of Cosy Rosie UK.

We’ve both been through the challenge of taking that specially selected yarn down from the shelf and actually use it! With the worry that you won’t have enough, it wont look right when stitched up and you’ll end up feeling you’ve wasted your time spent stitching AND the yarn too!

This free crochet along will ensure that you can select a pattern that will show off that yarn beautifully, and you’ll actually be able to use what you’ve stitch up with it too.

What Patterns Will Feature in the CAL?

During this free autumn accessory crochet along, 4 brand new patterns will be shared. 2 have been designed by High Desert Yarn and 2 by Cosy Rosie UK. Each pattern will show you different stitches and techniques to learn and there will be video tutorials to help you complete your projects too.

Below you will see a list of the patterns and the dates they will be released:

  • Briar Rose Triangle Scarf – 10th September 2024 – High Desert Yarn
  • Autumn Poppy Beanie – 17th September 2024 – Cosy Rosie UK
  • Briar Rose Headband – 24th September 2024 – High Desert Yarn
  • Autumn Rose Fingerless Gloves – 1st October 2024 – Cosy Rosie UK

The patterns listed above will be free-to-view on the designers website during the event but if you can’t wait for each of these beautiful crochet patterns to release, and the yarn we used to create these projects, you don’t have to – the pattern collection and the special yarn colours are on sale to purchase right now – find out more below.

What Stitches and Techniques Will Be used?

Autumn Poppy Hand Dyed Yarn by High Desert Yarn

This event is extra special in that all the designs have been created with hand dyed yarn in mind – and Joanna has created a brand new colourway for this event.

I couldn’t be more proud to be able to work with Joanna in this way. Since her guest post back in 2022, I’ve been so eager to stitch a project up in one of her colourways! Click here to read more about Joanna’s yarn dying inspiration and her process.

Yarn Colour Inspiration

Autumn Poppy captures the burnt hues that are only spotted at the turn of the season and as someone who rarely likes the colour orange, I was sold as soon as Joanna shared her mood board for the yarn.

Joanna also created the most stunning dusky rose colour that compliments the all shades in seen in the Autumn Poppy colourway too – together, they create the most wonderous combination that I can’t wait to wear.

Yarn Alternatives and Yarn Amounts

It’s well known that some of us in the crochet community already have a stash of yarn that’s always calling us to be used, so if you’re looking to make use of that stash, here’s everything you need to know to recreate these patterns.

Yarn Alternatives

All of the patterns in the Autumn Poppy Pattern Collection have been stitched up using a DK/size 3 yarn that is made of 100% merino fibres. You can substitute this yarn for a yarn that is the same DK/size 3 weight.

During pattern testing, my testers used commercially available yarns such as Stylecraft Special DK to recreate the patterns. It is always recommended to check your gauge before starting a pattern with a substituted yarn. Click here to read more about substituting yarns

These patterns have also been tested using other fibres such as acrylic yarn and work up just as well, so if you prefer to not use animal fibres, you can also substitute for synthetic fibres such as acrylic. Plant based fibres such as cotton, will not recreate the same look and feel as animal/synthetic fibres.

Yarn Amounts

Each pattern has estimated yarn amounts and where multiple sizes are available, or more than one shade used in the pattern, a size chart may be provided to help you confirm the yarn amounts required.

Briar Rose Triangle Scarf Yarn Amounts

This pretty triangle scarf pattern designed by High Desert Yarn has an estimated yarn requirement of 532 yds to complete this project based on a finished size with a width of 44″ and a length of 21″.

Autumn Poppy Beanie

The Autumn Poppy Beanie by Cosy Rosie UK uses 2 different shades of yarn and is worked from side-to-side to reduce the overall yarn needed to create the pattern.

Due to the multiple sizes and the 2 shades used in the pattern, see the size chart below to confirm the yarn amounts for each shade, or combine them to create a hat in 1 colour.

Briar Rose Headband

The Briar Rose Headband designed by High Desert Yarn is available in multiple sizes:

  • Baby – 53 yds
  • Toddler – 61 yds
  • Child – 69 yds
  • Adult Small – 77 yds
  • Adult Medium – 81 yds
  • Adult Large – 85 yds
Autumn Rose Fingerless gloves

The Autumn Poppy Fingerless Gloves designed by Cosy Rosie UK are written in 2 sizes and are worked in a similar way to the corresponding beanie pattern, with the ribbing pattern adjusted for a closer fit.

  • 7″ hand circumference – 150 yds
  • 8″ hand circumference – 170 yds

All the yarn amounts provided are estimated and based on the gauge created by the designer.

As an extra special treat, there will be a giveaway to win some festive yarn that is super simple to enter, we just wanna see your finished Autumn Poppy Projects!
