Herringbone Stitch Granny Square | Free Crochet Pattern
The Herringbone stitch is one that everyone should learn – it creates a really interesting texture and the technique to create the stitch can be applied to all the stitch heights.
It’s similar to the extended crochet stitches, but the loop brought up is worked straight through the the loop on the hook before completing the stitch.
In comparison to the Pike stitch, the stitches look normal when working back along the next row.
I worked my square in 2 colours to indicate the different sized stitches and this also allowed me to explain the best way to change colours while working in rows so that colour changes are not noticeable.
The colour choices are completely up to you! You could work every row in a different colour, work the square in 1 solid colour or opt for a gradient yarn to see the longer colour changes.
