What is Granny Square Day?
Granny Square Day is your chance to be a part of the worlds biggest virtual crochet blanket. The event is hosted on Instagram and people in the crochet community are encouraged to share a photo of a granny square they’ve made on social media. Read on to learn how to get involved with Granny Square Day…
The History of Granny Square Day
Granny Square Day was originally created in 2014 by the crochet enthusiast Susan Regalia, who utilised Instagram’s iconic square image, grid format to replicate the gorgeous patchwork arrangement of the ever classic granny square blanket online.
The event has grown year on year with more people learning about the fun event and getting involved with sharing their images.
The event is now hosted annually by Simply Crochet Magazine to help centralise the thousands of images shared, along with encouraging more people to get involved.
They also create an annual magazine dedicated to the wonderous granny square, chock full of inspirational patterns.

How I Celebrate Granny Square Day
I have always been a fan of the traditional granny square and even more so of the Granny Stitch. Those little groups of 3 double crochets just get me excited with their endless possibilities – especially when they are worked in rows.
To celebrate granny square day, I’ve hosted a few different events, from gathering together stunning patterns that all feature the granny stitch, through to releasing my Hodgepodge Blanket, that has 30 different granny square designs that are joined to create a beautiful blanket.
